I started photographing hummingbirds in the spring of 2011, just a few months after I received a Nikon D5000 for Christmas (thanks, Dad!). There is an alder tree that stands in front of my parent’s breakfast room windows. It’s a perfect place for me to perch and point my camera lens out the open window — even in 40-degree weather (again, thanks, Dad!) — and shoot the hummingbirds as the rest between sips at the feeders. We call the alder “The Hummingbird Tree.”
